Worship For All

We are a church which seeks to be inclusive and open. All are truly welcome in our church. First-time worshippers and visitors mostly welcomed amongst us, and we rejoice in that we are able to seek to worship the Lord Jesus Christ together.

We are blessed with a well-supported choir at singing at our morning services, although the Choir has now temporarily ceased to lead worship due to the covid-19 pandemic lock down and restrictions, we are very much looking forward to a time when they will be back fully in our Church Services when they regularly provide an introit and an anthem.

Evening services are smaller and more informal and take place in the lovely setting of the Upper Room. In addition, there is weekday worship on Wednesdays at 1pm – 2pm (with Communion on the first Wednesday of the month), prayers for healing on Thursdays from 1pm – 1pm. These smaller services are also held in the Upper Room, and this is open for private prayer most mornings.

Before the Covid-19 nationwide Lock down the Chapel Field Road Methodist Church Choir sings regularly at the morning service and on other special occasions. The music presented was both from the great tradition of church music, and from more modern idioms. Each week the Choir sang an introit and an anthem. The accompaniment to congregational singing is usually on the organ.

They were joined by a group of instrumentalists at various times of the year, ranging from those who play regularly in other local groups to those who manage what they can. In addition various other groups were brought together at appropriate times.

The younger members of the congregation also led worship from time to time, using voices and instruments as available.

Until recently we had a good-sized choir that rehearsed every Friday evening and sang every Sunday morning.

Sadly over the last two years we have lost members due to the pandemic, death, illness or moving away from Norwich. We are now hoping that it may be possible to become an occasional choir singing at the festivals or perhaps monthly. New members would be most welcome. The ability to read music would be a great help. We have experience of making suitable arrangements for people with a disability to be able to join in. Although rehearsals have been on Friday evenings it could be necessary to have some daytime sessions if that would suit some members better.

We welcome children and young people of all ages.

For children under 3, a crèche is available during Sunday Morning Worship. Please make yourself known to the Stewards on entering the church, and they will indicate to you where and when to go out. You can stay with your child in crèche (and listen to the service over the speaker) or return to church.

CFR is accessibility rated, and there are provisions for people on wheeled Chairs. There is a loop system for hearing the services more effectively. Large print copies of the hymn books are available from the stewards

A minibus collects worshippers from Cromwell House, a nearby MHA retirement home.

The service can be heard in the back foyer of the church, for those with coughs or fractious children. There is level access to the building via the church centre, with automatic doors, and space for a car to pull up temporarily outside.

There is a lift to the first floor for those who may wish to use it and there are toilets on both floors, with a separate accessible toilet for the disabled on the ground floor, and another in the ladies’ toilet upstairs

There is sensor lighting in the car park.
